ITV News Channel goes 24 hours

The ITV News channel has started broadcasting 24 hours on DTT. It previously went off-air between 06:00 and 09:25 as GMTV hold the licence for the broadcast space during these hours. With no suitable content to broadcast themselves, GMTV have now allowed ITV to use the morning slot for the News Channel.

7-day EPG due in January

The BBC have revealed that a new seven day EPG is expected in January 2004. Most recent boxes that support the seven day EPG, or will be able to do so by software updates, should support it using their firmware (so recording timers can be set at the press of a button). Older boxes such as the Goodmans GDB1, Panasonic TUCT20 and ONdigital boxes are not likely to have any further software updates so will not support this feature. A new MHEG channel carrying the same data that can be used on all boxes that have MHEG software is also expected, but it will not be possible to set recording timers from this service.
